Last week, Drexel Online co-sponsored and hosted one of two regional workshops provided by the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium (SOC). The event served to educate university leaders on new issues and regulations affecting military personnel and veterans including the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act.
The workshop featured an overview of the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and financial aid overlap between the Montgomery GI Bill and the new bill, ways to grant academic credit to students with military training and experience, how to assist Service members as they transition to campus, and how colleges can reach out to veterans and their families. The newly revised Post-9/11 GI Bill provides more than double the amount of educational benefits ($40,000 to $90,000) available to service members. The bill enables members of the military to transfer their unused college tuition benefits to their spouse and/or children beginning in August, 2009.
The event was a great success with dozens in attendance from around the country. For more info on the event or how the bill works, contact me directly by commenting below!
