The 2008 National Distance Learning Week came to a close with over 25 institutions (schools, colleges, government agencies,
and corporations) having planned and conducted online events to promote
distance learning. Ten webinars sponsored by USDLA were attended by over 460 educators from
across the globe. A complete listing of the events can be found at: www.NDLW.org
Here at Drexel, we hosted a number of events, both online
and on-campus. Drexel University Online sponsored its annual
awards ceremony, where we recognize the accomplishments of our outstanding
online professors, and honored a state and national leader in distance
learning. This year’s recipient of the state award was Pennsylvania Governor
Edward Rendell, and the national recipient was United States First Lady Laura
Bush.
Drexel planned and conducted the first annual US-China Virtual
Symposium (see a news article about the event here). The results were very impressive, with over 240 Symposium registrants
from 13 countries and 5 continents, and 119 educational institutions. The
image below is from the first of three virtual symposiums conducted last week,
in which I served as one of several expert panelists on the future of online
learning in a global educational marketplace.
We welcome your ideas on how we can make next year's NDLW an even greater success. What are some topics you would be interested in learning more about? Are you an educator, online student, or prospective online student? What does NDLW mean to you and how would you utilize that week to educate people in your community about the future of learning?
